Welcome to Turku, Finland
Turku, Finland’s oldest city, founded in 1229, is today one of Finland’s biggest cities. The city is a charming mixture of old and new, and a hub of education and health and life sciences innovation, making it a great setting for ECCB2024.
Turku’s compact size makes it easy to explore, with most hotels, restaurants, and attractions within walking distance. Urban life is focused around River Aura, with some of the most interesting sights located on its banks, such as the Turku Castle, the Old Town of Turku, and many museums. Known as the Food Capital of Finland, Turku also boasts a lively culinary scene.
If you have a chance, visit also the unique and beautiful Turku archipelago!
Get to know the organizers: CSC – IT Center for Science
University of Turku and CSC – IT Center for Science are collaborating as organisers of ECCB2024. Together, the Finnish organisers have unique experience in computational biology research and data infrastructures.
CSC is a company with a special mission, owned by the state of Finland and Finnish higher education institutions. It builds world-class environments for research, learning, and innovation, thereby strengthening Finnish society’s competitiveness. CSC employs more than 600 experts in various fields.
The world-class tools CSC provides for comprehensive scientific computing, data management, and sensitive data services create a platform for scientific breakthroughs. Europe’s fastest supercomputer, LUMI, is located in CSC’s data center, further boosting cutting-edge Finnish and European research. All European researchers can apply for access to LUMI’s resources.
Furthermore, CSC is home to ELIXIR Finland, which develops European life science infrastructure services with international partners. ELIXIR Finland is an excellent example of CSC’s broad international collaboration in developing its services and supporting science.
